There were two catering events I was involved in the weekend after final classes. Working with Chef Mike Sterpin I experienced the thrill of being a plating lead for 260 ppl on the Friday night. I have never before had the opportunity to plan and execute such an event (with help of course!!!) and wasn't sure I was capable. The guidance I received ensured the event would be a success and because of that I came away with new found confidence I so greatly needed.
On Saturday night I helped cater a fundraising event, this was a different experience from the previous night as it was passed canapes. This also was a learning experience as there were 7 options to be prepped for a certain number of people that would be attending. Determining flavours, presentation and functionality were all part of the learning.
Both events were very rewarding learning experiences and let me tell you there is so much to be gained by jumping in and becoming involved!!! I will never understand the ppl who do not grasp every opportunity presented to them, I for one am so eager for more, my learning will hopefully never end.
Next event The Flavour Festival with Chef Brian Henry where we will be showcasing local product and business, something I am a huge supporter of.
